According to IceNews’s article, Viator’s Top rated award was given to Reykjavík Excursions for 2017.

Reykjavík Excursions is one of Iceland’s largest tour operators and has several different tours for people travelling in Iceland. The award recognizes Reykjavík Excursions as an outstanding provider for Viator’s platform.

“It is an honour to receive Viator´s 2017 Travel Awards as it is indeed our goal to provide outstanding services and products for all our customers. To get this recognition from Viator and Trip Advisor is a privilege for us, being amongst the largest companies around the globe receiving this award,” says Halldóra Matthíasdóttir, who is the sales and marketing operations manager for Reykjavík Excursions.

Reykjavík Excursions is a reputable company that has grown in recent years and apparently managed to maintain high standards in service for their customers. It holds various certifications for its environmental policy, and their standards have not gone unnoticed by Viator’s customers. TripAdvisor acquired Viator, a leading site for online travel bookings, in 2014. Through Viator, travellers can book activities and tours around the globe and leave reviews afterwards. They rate tour operators such as Reykjavík Excursions so Viator can validate them for the value, service and quality for others to see.

In the words of Halldóra: “This encourages our teams to keep up the good work and to show consistency in providing the best services in tourism in Iceland.”

meteocontrol to perform monitoring and feed-in management for Arkolia Energies in France

Augsburg, July 06, 2017 – meteocontrol GmbH has become a partner of Arkolia Energies in Montpellier, France. The aim of the partnership is to equip all of the solar parks operated by the solar-energy company with a uniform monitoring system and to facilitate electricity feed-in. meteocontrol will integrate the existing PV systems into the manufacture-independent monitoring platform VCOM. For its new systems, Arkolia Energies plans to use the complete monitoring solution offered by meteocontrol, including hardware components. meteocontrol also developed the necessary interface with Enedis, a French grid operator, for this purpose.

Arkolia Energies has a solar portfolio of about 150 MWp of installed power. More than 400 MWp is currently in the development phase as well. To ensure that the solar systems can be efficiently and securely monitored, the company decided to work with meteocontrol. The flexibility of the monitoring system is what sold Arkolia Energies on meteocontrol: The existing systems equipped with a broad range of different monitoring systems can be imported into the VCOM monitoring portal without any hardware changes. Arkolia Energies can now monitor and manage all systems in VCOM.

“We entered a partnership with meteocontrol for one main reason: Its monitoring solution is a system with open interfaces that can be modified to meet our needs,” said Guillaume Bringard, the O&M Manager at Arkolia Energies. In 2015, the French grid operator Enedis imposed requirements regarding the management of feed-in active power (P0) and reactive power (Q0) on energy producers. meteocontrol developed the interface that enables Arkolia Energies to meet these needs.

VCOM – all systems at a glance
meteocontrol has designed the central monitoring platform VCOM with flexibility in mind. As a result, the measurement data of components made by the widest range of manufacturers can be integrated and processed for analysis and visualization. “This is a cost-efficient solution for system operators, one that also generates real savings in operation management,” said Martin Schneider, the Managing Director of meteocontrol. “The management of large system portfolios in particular becomes much more effective, error analysis easier and response time to system failures faster.” meteocontrol also adapts software applications to the individual system and is developing additional remote-monitoring features for Arkolia Energies.

meteocontrol also offers a special monitoring and control solution that is designed to meet French market requirements regarding dynamic reactive power (DEIE). This solution will be used in future projects with Arkolia. “We are really excited about this partnership,” Martin Schneider said. “Together with Arkolia Energies, interesting projects and new challenges will arise, and they will significantly increase our presence in the French market.”

CAD Collision Testing in Machine and Plant Engineering

$
0
0

The innovation team of the German-French software manufacturer CoreTechnologie (CT) has developed a new module for the 3D_Evolution series for CAD collision testing, which is specifically tailored to machine and plant engineering needs.

Precision and User Friendliness

The CAD collision calculation with the new tool takes place on the exact B-Rep descriptions, so that a precise distinction can be made between contact and penetration. This precision of the calculation in machine and plant construction was previously missing in the solutions available on the market and was the reason for the development of the new software.

The new tool avoids the fact that calculations on triangulated, only approximate models, indicate collisions that are not present in reality and in close examination. 3D_Evolution eliminates this unnecessary and impractical effect by means of a precise calculation on the exact geometry description of the CAD models and thus only indicates collisions that are actually present in reality.

Since collision analyzes are usually based on very large amounts of data, the multiprocessor calculation of the DMU Inspector software offers enormous advantages in terms of performance.

The tool is easy to use and easy to understand. In this way, the CAD collisions found can be opened directly from a list in the 3D viewer, whereby the collision areas are marked by curves and displayed very clearly. Filter functions and the tracking of collisions as well as a sophisticated reporting are designed for seamless collaboration of the design teams.

The calculation can be carried out on all standard CAD formats such as CATIA, Siemens NX, Creo as well as STEP, JT and PLMXML so that the software can be used immediately in any PLM environment without a complex integration.

Collision Avoidance

Especially in the field of machine and plant engineering, it is important to ensure already in the design phase that collisions are avoided before the assembly of the machine on site. Particularly when machines and plants are assembled abroad, manufacturers are oftentimes faced with expensive delays to fix unnecessary collisions, which now can be avoided with the new software.

No smelly trekking & hiking shoes anymore

$

Nothing is worse than stinking hiking or trekking shoes and damp-stuffed & muffling outdoor equipment such as backpacks, bags & sports equipment that – after heavy use – give a bad smell. What can you do there? What works permanently and in an environmentally friendly way?

There are indeed some home remedies such as citrus peels, essential tea tree oil, lavender, soda, cat litter or even the recommendations to deep freeze shoes as well as outdoor and sports equipment… This sounds complicated which it is also – especially in the practical implementation and daily needed use.
Ideal would be a product which is simply placed in the sweaty or moist shoes & sports equipment and then – via magic – absorbs moisture and odors while giving a pleasant & fresh scent.

This magic is now on the market, in the form of small fragrance pillows which works multi-functional as SHOE REFRESHENER, DEODORIZER, ODOR NEUTRALIZER and MOISTURE ABSORBER – all at the same time.

DUFFIES (http://duffies.de/en/home/) are small anti-odor pads on a natural basis, which you simply put into the shoes or the outdoor and sports equipment during the night or during the non-wearing. Ready.
Then the triple effect of the DUFFIES immediately begin to act:
1. They absorb moisture and thus prevent the bacteria’s livelihood in an environmentally friendly manner.
2. They effectively reduce bad odors.
3. They spread a pleasant, fresh scent.

DUFFIES anti-odor pads (http://duffies.de/en/media/) are therefore a combined product which consists of biodegradable ingredients and contains no silver ions, no aerosols and are without chemical bactericides. The combined ingredients comply with the EU REACH regulation and are free from hazardous chemicals.
The international motto of DUFFIES is: ” DUFFIES – the new sense of good smell (http://duffies.de/en/home/). DUFFIES work well – your equipment does not smell.”

Optical Connections for Battery Management

$
0
0

KDPOF – leading supplier for automotive gigabit connectivity over POF (Plastic Optical Fiber) – now provide their plastic optical fiber connections for battery management systems (BMS) in vehicles. “Electric and hybrid power trains present different voltage domains with large level differences, such as the ECU domain with 12 Volts, the actuators domain with 48 Volts, and the electric power domain with 400 Volts,” explained Carlos Pardo, CEO and Co-founder of KDPOF. “The galvanic isolation between these domains is a must due to ground parasitic resistance and potential shorts between voltage domains.” Optical connections with POF provide the optimal means to achieve galvanic isolation, providing 100 Mbps Ethernet compatible solutions with enough margin to withstand the harsh automotive environment. In addition, they are easy to upgrade to 1000 Mbps when a higher data rate is required.

Galvanic Isolation

The lack of galvanic isolation between the domains of a battery management system causes a serious threat to the user and a source of severe damage to the electromechanical parts of the car. Galvanic isolation is also necessary between the primary and secondary systems of both ac-dc and dc-dc converters due to the presence of hazardous high voltage (above 25 Vac or 60 Vdc). According to the FMVSS 305 and ECE-R standards, the isolation barrier between battery and exposed conductive parts should maintain 500 Ohm/V before and after a crash impact. “This is a tough requirement that is very hard to reach without a nearly perfect isolation that copper-based networks are unable to ensure,” added Carlos Pardo.

A low cost and low performance means to achieve galvanic isolation is an opto couplers based solution, which is rather unreliable and offers very limited speed performance. Looking at optical connections, glass optical fiber (GOF) does not provide enough margin for automotive requirements. This solution is mainly aimed at the highly-controlled environment of data centers, and does not meet automotive norms. Consequently, the first choice for battery management systems is Gigabit Ethernet POF (GEPOF), which perfectly meets the requirements of carmakers by providing high connectivity with a flexible digital host interface, low latency, low jitter, and low linking time. KDPOF’s transceiver for Ethernet over POF, the KD1053, is optimized for low power and small footprint and transmits data at 1000/100 Mbps on standard SI-POF, MC-POF, or PCS, according to 1000BASE-RH (IEEE 802.3bv).

New IT solution for local SMEs in Reading as true cost of IT neglect is revealed

$

0

Two-fifths of SME business owners (42 per cent) say they’ve lost income due to IT issues, according to a survey commissioned by worldwide IT support and technology services specialist A&O IT Groupwww.aoitgroup.co.uk.

A quarter (24 per cent) of SME business owners typically deal with issues every week, with their regular IT supplier being unable to resolve the problem quickly in 24 per cent of cases. Plus nearly a third (30 per cent) have admitted they had recently experienced technology blackouts wiping out at least one full working day.

Launching in Reading today, the specialist SME and small business IT support service – A&O IT ‘One Solution’ www.aoitgroup.co.uk – asked SME business owners to consider the long-term impact of overlooking their IT support. Despite the high-cost that computer glitches can have on a company’s bottom line, the research revealed that over half (54 per percent) don’t have regular IT check-ups that could identify and prevent potential system issues.

With cybercrime costing UK businesses around £124 million last year according to KPMG’s Fraud Barometer – a rise of 1,266 per cent – the potential risks of overlooking IT are on the increase, particularly for small businesses that are more likely to be targeted due to their lack of adequate security systems.

Mike Walker, spokesperson for A&O IT commented:
“Whilst we take it for granted that technological improvements are making our working lives simpler, it’s all too easy for IT to fall to the bottom of a company’s priority list. For many SMEs, outdated technology and lack of regular attention can negatively impact productivity as well as profit.

“As the world moves increasingly online, business success will become even more reliant on smooth-running IT services and air-tight cyber security. For small and medium-sized companies, finding the right supplier to outsource these functions to can be a great way to free up internal resources and reduce overheads.

“In the case of A&O IT One Solution for Small Business, we provide our customers with the security of knowing their IT is being managed and maintained around the clock and provide annual reviews pre-empting problems.

  • A&O IT One Solution allows SME’s to pick and choose from a raft of services including:

  • Network monitoring and reporting – 24/7 monitoring for peace of mind
  • Wi-Fi set up and support

  • Backup and data restoration for peace of mind
  • Disaster recovery
  • Cyber security advice and support via a ‘vulnerability tool’ to assess the level of threat a business currently faces

Sheffield, United Kingdom 9/14/2017. Digital technologies now pervade all aspects of life. Yet not everyone is able to access these technologies and if they cannot understand or use them, then they will not be participating in the ever changing digital world we are creating.

The DeveloperSpace at ds.gpii.net is a unique online digital hub designed to address the challenges of over 1 billion people globally facing disability, literacy, digital literacy or aging related barriers to using ICT.

Launched this week  during the 2017 Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Assistive Technology in Europe (AAATE), held in Sheffield (UK), the DeveloperSpace and the Unified Listing represent the first digital hub of its kind in the world, providing the resources needed to learn about, create, improve and market accessible products and solutions.

These platforms are part  of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII)  designed and built by top researchers, assistive technology experts and companies from Europe, Canada and the US.

DeveloperSpace Website

‘This is about people creating new solutions for people, it is the only place that provides new developers with the resources and information available from all over the web to learn about accessibility and move ideas out into the real world`, said Professor Gregg Vanderheiden, Co-Director of the GPII and co-founder of Raising The Floor International, a non-profit organization whose main focus is the development of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII).

These tools can be used by anyone interested in accessibility and the personalization of digital access, including assistive technology developers, researchers, companies building accessible features into their existing products, mainstream enterprises, public institutions, and policy makers.

The objective is to make it easier and more affordable for all users to adapt any digital technology they come in contact with -computers, smart-phones, TVs, ticket machines -to their individual needs. User´s preferences will be stored in the cloud where they can be called on to adapt to any device anytime, anywhere, so that it is understandable and usable by each person.

‘The GPII represents a paradigm shift in e-inclusion, a fresh approach to accessibility based on the capacity to provide “one-size-fits-one” designs through networked digital systems, offering greater choices and helping people with disabilities assert their right to access the digital world anytime, anywhere without explaining, negotiating or justifying their personal needs’, explained Jutta Treviranus, Director of the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) and co-founder of Raising The Floor International.

Prosperity4All is a 4-year EU funded project which began in February 2014 with the mission to develop the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) an initiative led by the non-profit association Raising The Floor International. On Monday 18 September, the Bergman 100-Year Jubilee will be launched in London by the Ingmar Bergman Foundation along with the Swedish Embassy. We are delighted to present Liv Ullmann as the guest of honour throughout the day’s events, as she shares memories and tales of her time with Ingmar Bergman.

We are very pleased to present an overview of the various activities planned to celebrate the Ingmar Bergman 100-Year Jubilee. There is a great interest in Bergman, due in large part to the successful theatrical stagings based on his works. Nevertheless, we are surprised by just how much is already planned for the 100-Year Jubilee, states Jan Holmberg, CEO of the Ingmar Bergman Foundation.

Ingmar Bergman has enriched, not only my life, but an entire world through his masterpieces in film, literature and theatre. The celebration of the Ingmar Bergman centenary throughout 2018 will truly acknowledge him as one of the most influential and creative icons in cinematic history. I am convinced that his vast legacy will continue to rightfully honour his brilliant artistry, says Liv Ullmann.

The developer team of the German-French software producer CoreTechnologie has adapted the data conversion software 3D_Evolution to the latest trends in CAx and Industry 4.0 and implemented clever innovations.

Virtual and Augmented Reality

Version 4.1 of the Simplifier module of the conversion software 3D_Evolution serves the requirements of digitization trends such as Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). The unique module generates in seconds an envelope geometry from detailed CAD models for knowhow protection. With a new FBX interface the CAD models from all common formats are extremely reduced and stored in the VR and AR standard. The number of polygons can be decimated by 90 percent and more, so that large models can now be displayed quickly in augmented reality glasses.

IoT: The Game Changer

$

The world is in a digital revolution, the Internet of Things has changed everything from the way we communicate, to improving business relationships and product performance. It is safe to say adopting IoT in a business is not a matter of choice, but an inevitable part of a business to stay on top of the game.

By 2020, it is anticipated that a typical household will include up to 500 Internet of Things devices. (Medium)

The best indicator and driver for implementing IoT in a business, is to recognise what problems a business is trying to solve. As an example, it might be finding a solution for how data is obtained from customers through better communication systems. Or to make people’s lives easier at home; through added convenience and speed. At Hydrate.Direct, we have embraced the change in consumer behavior and adopted IoT in our business to provide next working day water delivery to customers throughout the UK at the press of a button.

When a company or home is running low on water, they can press the Hydrate.Direct ‘smart button’. The button is a WiFi-enabled device that provides secure ordering in the cloud, via Amazon Web Services (AWS). Hydrate.Direct receives the data that they need water and sends bottles to the customer the next working day. This is the simplest solution to ordering water for office or home bottled water coolers. Communication is streamlined and hassle-free as everything is pre-configured to know customer’s delivery, payment details and what quantity they need with every order.

The button is particularly beneficial to customers outside of major UK cities who previously would have difficulty guaranteeing a delivery date for their water. Our button is disruptive technology within this industry; where ‘smart coolers’ have been mooted but not fully adopted.

Hydrate.Direct is one of the first UK SME’s to be accepted onto Amazon’s IOT Enterprise Program. The Hydrate.Direct smart button originates from Amazon’s IoT Dash Button. Adopting their button enables us to use their cloud technology and Lambda functionality. This is highly advantageous as using their IoT Services guarantees secure, scalable and dynamic operations. It provides the platform to respond to demand quickly and to adjust the button functionality to suit different customers.
Ultimately, Internet of Things is becoming more popular in industries and businesses. Already adopted within healthcare, sports, transport, energy, and government, it is penetrating retail as early adopters benefit from making their customer’s lives easier.
According to Business Insider, companies are going to spend up to $5 trillion on the Internet of Things in the next five years. Astounding figures again highlighting the growth in the realm of technology.
“If you think that the internet has changed your life, think again. The IoT is about to change it all over again!” — Brendan O’Brien, Chief Architect & Co-Founder, Aria Systems

Invisible power supply for conveyor systems

$

Together with the well known Producer of transformers and Power Supplies, the Puls-Group in Munich the Start-Up Avancon in Riazzino, Switzerland, developed a universal Power-Supply Unit for the field-bus AS-interface of about 30 V and for up to 20 DC-Motors of 24 V or 48 V altogether combined and build in a Crossbeam of the conveyor frame construction – which is invisible from outside.
It in called “3-in-1” Power Supply.
“One should make them invisible.” meant Dieter Specht, the founder of the Interroll Group and the inventor of the Avancon ZPC-Conveyor system. “So I got the genius idea to incorporate the Power-Supplies completely inside a Crossbeam. Because each Conveyor section – whether of 1 meter or 3 meter length needs two crossbeams in order to get a rigid construction. Of these we could use one, specially modified to get room inside for the two different power-supplies.”
Avancon SA got in touch with the famous producer of transformers and power-supplies, the Puls-Group in Munich and developed with them together the “3-in-1” Power-Supply unit for conveyor systems for 24 V or 48 V, which work in zones, as the ZPA function (Zero Pressure Accumulation).

Naturally this “3-in-1” Power-Supply was first developed for the Avancon ZPC-Conveyor System. – Now, it is finished, – invisible – and works perfectly. It was slightly modified in order to be used in almost any conveyor construction for unit handling, which has a function for ZPA (zero pressure accumulation). By this it is unimportant how the rollers or the belts are driven and where the brushless DC-motors are installed – as motor-rollers or drive-rollers integrated inside a roller or externally fixed to the profiles.

Thus any producer of conveyor systems can benefit from this Avancon “3-in-1” Power-Supply.

Here are the elements of the “3-in-1” benefits:

1. The fine anodize aluminum profile in C-form, open below for the assembly of the Power-Supplies and for the plug-in of the cables.
The lower part of the main profile will be closed with a ripped flat profile and is fixes with a few screws.
As soon as the C-profile is fixed inside the frames with self-forming screws it holds the frame strong and torsion resistant together as with other crossbeams. So everything is closed.
The “3-in-1” Power-Supply is highly efficient so that the aluminum C-profile gets about 40° C warm and furthermore the heat is fast reduced through the thermal conductivity of the aluminum material.
The crossbeam can be delivered in any length in relation to the internal width of the conveyor.
2. The Power-Supply tor the brushless DC-Motors of 24 V or 48 V. The AC current can be 110 to 240 V single phase (or double phase in Japan) and will be installed at one side of the conveyor whereas the DC-current is put at the opposite side.
Up to 20 Motors (when 24 V) can be served – depending of the cycles and the utilization.
3. In addition, there is a small board to be fixed on the main board for the supply of 30.5 V for the field-bus AS-interface. There can be up to 62 slaves/ sensors or actuators being connected. Therefore, only a few of these smaller boards are necessary in a large conveyor system. Here the cable length can be 100 meter and more.

Now, here is the point, the exceptional “3-in-1” Power-Supply for Conveyor Systems – invisible – is not expensive. – Yes, stated by Avancon SA this shall be significantly simpler and less expensive than previous methods.

Naturally there have to be additional holes in the frames for putting through the cables. In addition, the frames can be used as cable channels.

When all is assembled the Power-Supply “3-in-1” disappears – invisible. – This is not only economical but also remarkably easy and aesthetical.
